A simple yet effective way to add quick character to your home is with an assortment of hanging pots and plants.  You can make your own by getting all the materials and potting the plants yourself in the arrangement that best suits your tastes, or you can buy premaid hanging plants like those at Lowes.  The latter option is more expensive, but you are paying for the time and often times more mature plants that have already grown to cascade down.

To hang these plants, you’ll want to first determine the prime location, taking into consideration walkways, exposure to sun and visibility.  You don’t want to hang a plant where guests will hit their heads on it or bump into it, so making sure that you hang them in the line of sight but out of walking paths.  You also need to take into consideration the best types of flowers or plants for the location.  Too much sun will instantly waste your efforts, so don’t cut corners on this.  Secure the plants with ceiling hooks or with ornamental arms that go into your walls.
